Cyber Leaders Demand White House Reverse Anthropic AI Model Ban
Top CISOs and security execs say banning Anthropic's Mythos and Fable 5 models hurts defenders far more than attackers.
A coalition of prominent US cybersecurity leaders is pushing back hard against the White House's ban on Anthropic's Mythos and Fable 5 AI models. Their argument is blunt: the ban kneecaps the good guys while barely inconveniencing the bad ones.
The letter's signatories include CISOs, security researchers, and executives from Adobe, Zoom, and Sophos. They contend that defensive cybersecurity teams rely heavily on these advanced AI tools to detect threats, analyze vulnerabilities, and respond to attacks at machine speed.
Attackers, meanwhile, have no shortage of alternative tools and workarounds. Restricting access to powerful AI models primarily punishes the organizations trying to protect critical infrastructure and user data.
The letter urges the administration to reconsider the ban immediately, framing it as a self-inflicted wound to national cyber defense capabilities.
