SpaceX Rents Out Colossus 1 to Anthropic After Grok Struggles

SpaceX is handing the keys to its Colossus 1 data center to Anthropic. The reason? Internal teams struggled to use the facility for Grok development, plagued by latency issues that made the supercomputer a poor fit for Elon Musk's own AI ambitions.

Rather than let the infrastructure sit underutilized, SpaceX pivoted to renting it out. Anthropic — the Claude maker and one of the hottest AI labs on the planet — is the new tenant.

The move is more than a consolation prize. SpaceX has reportedly made AI infrastructure a central part of its IPO pitch, positioning itself not just as a rocket company but as a player in the booming compute economy.
