Chrome's AI Mode Gets Split-Screen Browsing and Multi-Tab Search
Google upgrades AI Mode in Chrome with side-by-side link viewing on desktop and cross-tab search on all platforms.
Google just leveled up AI Mode in Chrome. The company announced a fresh batch of features for its conversational search experience, and the headline addition is split-screen browsing.
Desktop users can now open links directly alongside AI Mode, keeping the AI conversation visible while exploring results. No more bouncing back and forth between tabs and your AI chat.
The update also brings multi-tab search to both desktop and mobile. That means users can query across several open tabs simultaneously — a genuinely useful trick for anyone drowning in browser tabs.
AI Mode itself is Google's attempt to make search more conversational, letting users dig deeper into topics through back-and-forth dialogue rather than traditional keyword queries. These new features make it feel less like a bolt-on experiment and more like a core part of how Chrome works.
