Google just gave NotebookLM a serious overhaul. The AI research tool now runs on Gemini 3.5 as its default model, paired with something called Antigravity, unlocking new agentic capabilities and sharper reasoning.

The upgrade targets AI Ultra users specifically, giving paying customers access to the most advanced features. Agentic capabilities mean the tool can now take more autonomous actions on behalf of users — think multi-step research tasks handled without constant hand-holding.

NotebookLM has been Google's quiet weapon in the AI productivity space. It started as a document analysis tool and has steadily evolved into something far more capable. The shift to Gemini 3.5 brings more advanced reasoning to the table, which should make it significantly better at synthesizing complex information across sources.

Google announced the changes on Monday. No word yet on broader rollout beyond Ultra tier.
