Google Drops 'Skills' — Reusable AI Prompts Baked Into Chrome

Google just gave Chrome's Gemini sidebar a power-up. The company launched Skills — essentially reusable AI prompts you can fire off with a keyboard shortcut instead of typing the same thing over and over.

Think of them as macros for the AI age. Users can build custom Skills from scratch or pick from more than 50 prebuilt options. The premade lineup covers practical ground: maximizing protein in recipes, summarizing YouTube videos, and other everyday tasks that benefit from quick AI assistance.

The feature sits inside Chrome's Gemini sidebar, making it accessible without leaving the browser. It's a clear play to make AI interactions less friction-heavy and more habitual — turning one-off prompts into repeatable workflows.

No word yet on whether Skills will expand beyond Chrome or integrate with other Google surfaces.
