Apple Drops New AI Frameworks and Agentic Coding Tools
Apple unveiled Foundation Models and Core AI frameworks alongside Xcode upgrades for agentic developer workflows.
Apple just handed developers a fresh stack of AI tools. The company announced a new Foundation Models framework, a Core AI framework, and a suite of Xcode enhancements designed to supercharge coding with agentic workflows.
The Foundation Models framework gives developers direct access to Apple's on-device AI capabilities. Core AI sits alongside it as another building block for integrating intelligence into apps. Together, they signal Apple is serious about making AI a first-class citizen in its developer ecosystem.
The Xcode upgrades are arguably the most interesting piece. Apple is leaning into agentic coding — letting AI handle more complex, multi-step development tasks rather than just autocompleting lines. It's a direct play against GitHub Copilot and other AI coding assistants that have dominated the conversation.
No word yet on exactly which models power the frameworks or when developers can start shipping apps built on them.
