Quest headset owners will lose access to Meta's virtual social world on June 15, with only the mobile app surviving.

Meta Kills Horizon Worlds on Quest Headsets, Keeps Mobile App

Meta is pulling the plug on Horizon Worlds for Quest headset users. The company confirmed that access to its cartoon-avatar social platform will be cut off on the headsets starting June 15.

Horizon Worlds — Meta's ambitious virtual hangout space where users interact as animated versions of themselves — won't disappear entirely. The experience will live on through the Meta Horizon mobile app. But the VR headset experience, once the flagship way to access the platform, is getting axed.

It's a notable retreat for a company that bet billions on the metaverse vision. Quest headsets were supposed to be the gateway to virtual social spaces like Horizon Worlds. Now Meta is effectively admitting the mobile app is the more viable path forward for the platform.

Quest owners have until mid-June to say goodbye to VR-based Horizon Worlds.
