Amazon Kills Wondery Podcast App, Folds Remnants Into Audible

Amazon is axing the standalone Wondery podcast app and killing off the Wondery+ subscription tier. The shutdown will roll out "in the coming months," according to messages sent to users.

Some Wondery shows will survive the cull — they'll land on Audible, Amazon's audiobook and audio entertainment platform. But the dedicated app and its subscription model are done.

Amazon acquired Wondery back in 2020, snapping up one of the biggest independent podcast networks in the game. The studio behind hits like "Dr. Death" and "Dirty John" was supposed to bolster Amazon's push into podcasting.

Now that push is consolidating. Rather than maintaining a separate podcast brand and app, Amazon appears to be streamlining its audio strategy under the Audible umbrella. Wondery subscribers should brace for transition details in the weeks ahead.
