CZ's Unpublished Memoir Spills Binance's Secret 2023 Negotiations
Changpeng Zhao's draft memoir reveals the behind-the-scenes talks that ended with his prison sentence and an ICE encounter.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao put pen to paper — and apparently held nothing back. A draft of his unpublished memoir, titled "Freedom of Money," lays out the clandestine negotiations in 2023 that ultimately led to his imprisonment.
The book also details a previously undisclosed run-in with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The New York Times obtained the unpublished draft, which paints a detailed picture of what went down behind closed doors as CZ negotiated his fate.
Zhao pleaded guilty in late 2023 to federal charges related to Binance's compliance failures and served a four-month prison sentence. His memoir appears to go far deeper into the back-channel dealings that preceded that guilty plea.
No word yet on whether "Freedom of Money" will ever hit shelves. Given what's in it, publishers are probably already circling.
