Intrinsic, the robotics software company that spun out of Alphabet back in 2021, is coming home. The unit is rejoining Google with a clear mission: advance physical AI for robotics.
The move isn't entirely surprising. Despite operating as a separate Alphabet subsidiary for several years, Intrinsic never fully cut the cord. The company maintained ongoing collaborations with other Alphabet subsidiaries throughout its independent run.
Now Google is pulling it back under its roof, signaling a deeper commitment to the rapidly heating physical AI space. Physical AI — the intersection of artificial intelligence and real-world robotic systems — has become one of tech's hottest battlegrounds.
By reabsorbing Intrinsic, Google gains tighter integration between its AI research muscle and practical robotics applications. The consolidation suggests Alphabet sees more value in a unified approach than keeping robotics at arm's length.
