UK Chip Startup Olix Hits Unicorn Status With $220M Raise
London-based Olix joins the unicorn club, gunning for Nvidia's crown in AI chips.
A 25-year-old British entrepreneur just pulled off something remarkable. James Dacombe's AI chip startup Olix has raised $220 million at a valuation north of $1 billion.
Hummingbird led the round for the London-based company, which has one audacious goal: build AI chips that outpace Nvidia on both speed and cost.
Dacombe isn't new to the startup game. He's also CEO of CoMind, a brain monitoring company. Now he's betting big that there's room in the AI hardware market for a scrappy challenger.
The timing makes sense. Everyone's hunting for Nvidia alternatives as AI compute demand explodes. Whether Olix can actually deliver chips that compete remains the billion-dollar question.
But with fresh unicorn status and serious backing, they've bought themselves a real shot at finding out.
