Etched Raises $800M, Signs $1B in Sales Contracts

Etched, the AI chip startup positioning itself as an Nvidia rival, just pulled in $800 million in fresh funding. The investor list includes trading giant Jane Street and a venture firm with ties to TSMC — not exactly small names.

But the funding is only half the story. Etched says it has also signed sales contracts worth $1 billion. That's a serious signal of demand for an alternative to Nvidia's dominance in AI silicon.

The combination of heavyweight backers and billion-dollar contracts puts Etched in rare company among AI chip startups. Most competitors struggle to get either. Etched appears to have both.

The TSMC-linked investment is particularly notable — it suggests the world's most important chip manufacturer sees enough promise in Etched's designs to back them financially, not just fabricate their chips.
