Uber Bringing Premium Robotaxis to Houston by Mid-2027

Uber partners with Lucid and Nuro to expand its premium autonomous ride-hailing service to its second U.S. market.

Uber is gearing up to launch a premium robotaxi service in Houston by mid-2027. The move would make Houston the second U.S. city to get the service, expanding from its existing SF operations.

The ride-hailing giant is teaming up with EV maker Lucid and autonomous vehicle startup Nuro to make it happen. Lucid brings the luxury electric hardware. Nuro brings the self-driving brains. Uber brings the platform and the riders.

It's a notable three-way partnership that pairs Uber's massive distribution network with two companies attacking different parts of the autonomous mobility stack. Houston — sprawling, car-dependent, and hot — is a very different proving ground than the Bay Area.

The mid-2027 timeline gives the trio roughly a year and a half to get everything road-ready in a new market. No small feat for autonomous operations at scale.
