Judge Throws Out X's Antitrust Case Against Ad Industry

A federal judge dismissed X Corp's lawsuit claiming major advertisers illegally boycotted the platform.

X just lost its legal battle against the advertising industry. A U.S. federal judge threw out the company's antitrust lawsuit on Thursday, rejecting claims that a coalition of major corporations conspired to starve the platform of ad revenue.

X Corp had taken aim at the World Federation of Advertisers along with a group of big-name companies, alleging they orchestrated an illegal boycott. The platform argued this coordinated pullback amounted to antitrust violations.

The judge wasn't buying it. The dismissal is a significant blow to X's attempt to use the courts to fight back against the advertiser exodus that has hammered the platform's bottom line since Elon Musk's takeover.

The ruling effectively tells X that advertisers choosing to spend their money elsewhere — even collectively — doesn't automatically constitute an illegal conspiracy.
