Nudify Apps Thriving on Apple and Google Stores Despite Bans

Dozens of nudify apps generating $122M+ in revenue remain searchable on major app stores despite policies prohibiting them.

Apple and Google have a nudify app problem — and it's a lucrative one. A new analysis from the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) found dozens of apps that let users create nonconsensual sexualized images of people sitting right there in both app stores, easily discoverable through search.

This despite both companies having explicit policies that prohibit such apps.

The kicker: these apps have collectively raked in more than $122 million in revenue. That's a staggering number for a category that technically shouldn't exist on either platform.

The findings raise serious questions about how effectively Apple and Google enforce their own app store rules. Both companies have long positioned themselves as gatekeepers who carefully vet what makes it onto their platforms. Yet these apps apparently slipped through — or were simply tolerated — while generating nine-figure revenue.
