DeepSeek just made its temporary price cut permanent. The company's flagship V4 Pro model will now cost developers $0.435 per million input tokens and $0.87 per million output tokens — a 75% reduction from original pricing.
The discounted rates were initially set to expire on May 31. Instead, DeepSeek decided to lock them in for good. Developers now pay just a quarter of what the model originally cost to use.
The move signals DeepSeek is playing the volume game hard. Cheaper API access means more developers building on its stack, which means more ecosystem lock-in. In the current AI pricing war, where margins are already razor-thin, permanently undercutting your own rates is a bold play.
