Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the witness stand in the Musk v. Altman trial on Monday and dropped a notable claim: Elon Musk never once reached out to him with concerns that Microsoft's investments in OpenAI violated any special terms or commitments.
That's a significant detail. Musk's legal battle against OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has centered on allegations that the AI lab strayed from its original mission. Microsoft, as OpenAI's biggest financial backer, sits at the heart of that narrative.
Yet according to Nadella's testimony, Musk — despite his very public grievances — apparently never picked up the phone to raise those concerns directly with the person writing the checks.
The testimony could undercut Musk's positioning that he actively tried to address his concerns through proper channels before resorting to litigation.
