Apple Taps Intel to Manufacture Chips in Major U.S. Deal
Apple and Intel have struck a formal agreement for Intel to fabricate chips destined for Apple devices.
Apple is handing Intel some serious foundry work. The two tech heavyweights have finalized a deal for Intel to manufacture chips that will end up inside Apple products, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The agreement marks a notable twist. Apple famously ditched Intel's processors in 2020 when it launched its own silicon for Macs. Now Intel is back in the picture — not as a chip designer, but as a manufacturer.
The Trump administration reportedly pushed to make the partnership happen, fitting neatly into broader efforts to boost domestic semiconductor production.
For Intel, this is a major vote of confidence in its struggling foundry business. Landing Apple as a customer is about as big as it gets. For Apple, it diversifies manufacturing beyond its heavy reliance on TSMC in Taiwan.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
