Anthropic Inks Deal to Take Over SpaceX's Colossus 1 Compute

Anthropic just locked down a massive infrastructure deal with an unlikely partner: Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The AI company announced Wednesday it has signed an agreement to use all of the compute capacity at Colossus 1, SpaceX's data center facility. The deal hands Anthropic access to over 300 MW of new compute capacity within the month.

That's a staggering amount of power. For context, 300 MW can run a small city. For Anthropic, it means serious muscle for training and running its AI models at scale.

The partnership is notable given the competitive dynamics at play. Musk runs his own AI venture, xAI, making this a case of infrastructure business trumping rivalry. SpaceX gets a paying customer for Colossus 1. Anthropic gets raw compute it desperately needs.

Both sides win. The AI arms race stays hungry for watts.
