Meta Expands Teen Safety Controls Across EU and Facebook
Meta is rolling out Instagram's teen account protections to 27 EU nations and bringing them to Facebook in the US.
Meta is pushing its teen safety features well beyond their current footprint. The company announced plans to extend Instagram's teen account safeguards to all 27 European Union member states.
But that's not all. Meta is also bringing those same protections to Facebook in the United States — a significant platform expansion for the safety tools.
The UK and EU Facebook rollouts are slated for June, putting the US deployment ahead of schedule by comparison.
The move signals Meta is getting serious — or at least wants to look serious — about shielding younger users across its major platforms. Teen accounts on Instagram already come with built-in restrictions on content, messaging, and notifications. Now those guardrails are going wider and deeper into Meta's product ecosystem.
Whether regulators will consider this sufficient remains another question entirely.
