Bezos' Secret AI Lab Poaches xAI Co-Founder from OpenAI

Jeff Bezos' under-the-radar venture, Project Prometheus, just made a big talent grab. Kyle Kosic — who co-founded Elon Musk's xAI and was most recently at OpenAI — has jumped ship to join the secretive operation.

Prometheus is building systems designed to understand the physical world. That's a deliberately vague description, but the scale of the operation suggests serious ambitions. The startup already has hundreds of staff spread across its San Francisco headquarters plus offices in London and Zurich.

Three global offices and a headcount in the hundreds means this isn't some side project. Bezos is clearly pouring real resources into Prometheus, and raiding top talent from both xAI and OpenAI signals he's playing to win in the AI race.

The hire underscores just how aggressively the biggest names in tech are competing for a shrinking pool of elite AI researchers.
