Judge Tosses Ex-WhatsApp Security Chief's Lawsuit Against Meta
Former WhatsApp cybersecurity head's claims that Meta ignored critical security flaws get thrown out of court.
A U.S. judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Meta by Attaullah Baig, the former head of cybersecurity at WhatsApp. Baig claimed Meta deliberately ignored critical security vulnerabilities he flagged and retaliated against him after he disclosed them.
The court wasn't buying it. The judge ruled Baig failed to bring sufficient facts to support his allegations of violations by Meta or claims of retaliation. The case essentially collapsed under the weight of its own evidentiary gaps.
It's a notable loss for whistleblower-style actions in Big Tech. Baig held one of the most sensitive security roles at one of the world's most widely used messaging platforms. His allegations — that Meta looked the other way on security flaws — carried serious implications.
But implications aren't evidence. The court made that distinction crystal clear.
