Spotify Lets You Edit Your Taste Profile for the First Time

Spotify is finally letting users mess with the algorithm. The company announced Taste Profile editing at SXSW, marking the first time listeners can directly fine-tune how Spotify's recommendation engine sees them.

Co-CEO Gustav Söderström revealed the feature, which is launching in beta with Premium subscribers in New Zealand first. The tool gives users actual control over the taste signals Spotify uses to serve up music recommendations — rather than just hoping the algorithm eventually figures out what you want.

It's a significant shift for a platform that's historically kept its recommendation machinery firmly behind the curtain. Users have long complained about algorithmic ruts and unwanted suggestions polluting their feeds. Now they can do something about it.

No word yet on when — or if — the feature rolls out globally beyond the New Zealand beta.
