Windows 11 Gets Xbox Mode: Full-Screen, Controller-First Gaming

Microsoft just confirmed Xbox mode is coming to Windows 11. It's a full-screen, controller-first gaming interface — essentially turning any PC into a console-like experience.

The rollout begins in April and will work across all PC form factors. Laptops, desktops, handhelds, mini PCs — everything gets the treatment.

This is one of the biggest shifts in Microsoft's gaming strategy in years. Instead of keeping Xbox and Windows as separate ecosystems, the company is collapsing the gap between them. Pick up a controller, and your PC becomes an Xbox.

No word yet on exactly which features the mode will include or whether it'll integrate directly with Game Pass. But the signal is clear: Microsoft wants every Windows machine to double as a gaming console.

The console wars just moved to the desktop.
