Stargate Texas Expansion Collapses as Oracle, OpenAI Split
Oracle and OpenAI ditched plans to expand their flagship Texas AI data center after financing talks fell apart.
The Stargate dream just got smaller. Oracle and OpenAI have abandoned plans to expand a major AI data center in Texas after financing disputes torpedoed negotiations.
The two companies couldn't agree on terms to scale up the flagship facility, leaving the planned expansion site up for grabs. Enter Meta, which is now reportedly eyeing a lease on the very space Oracle and OpenAI walked away from.
It's a messy breakup for what was supposed to be a marquee AI infrastructure project. Stargate has been positioned as a cornerstone of next-gen AI compute buildout, but money talks — and apparently the conversations went nowhere.
Meta swooping in would be peak irony. The company has been on an aggressive data center spending spree and clearly isn't shy about picking up what others leave behind.
