Pixel Phones Now Double as Desktop Computers via USB-C

Google just turned your Pixel into a makeshift desktop. The company rolled out a new feature that lets Pixel 8 and newer devices connect to an external monitor over USB-C and serve up a full multi-window desktop experience.

Think Samsung DeX, but for Pixel owners. Plug in a USB-C cable to a monitor and your phone transforms into something resembling a traditional desktop environment. Multiple windows. Proper screen real estate. No laptop required.

The feature works with Pixel 8 and all subsequent models. That's the cutoff — older Pixels don't make the cut.

It's a smart move from Google. Smartphones already pack serious processing power, and most people carry one everywhere. Eliminating the need for a separate computer in certain scenarios just makes sense. A cable and a monitor is all you need.
