Google Home Gets Gemini-Powered Live Search for Camera Feeds

Google just dropped a hefty Google Home update that tackles a pile of user complaints — and threw in a genuinely interesting new AI trick.

The headline feature is Live Search, which lets Gemini analyze and describe what your cameras are seeing in real time. Think: "Hey Google, is there a car in the driveway?" and actually getting a useful answer pulled from your live camera feed.

Google Home chief Anish Kattukaran announced the changes, which go beyond the flashy AI stuff. The platform is getting fixes for a long list of annoyances and quirks that have frustrated smart home users for ages.

It's a two-pronged play. Make the existing experience less painful while layering on Gemini's vision capabilities to make cameras genuinely smarter. Whether it works as smoothly in practice as it does in demos remains to be seen — but the direction is clear.
