Amazon Eyes Ad Tech for AI Chatbots
Amazon Publisher Services is exploring tools to help apps and websites sell ads inside AI chatbot experiences.
Amazon wants to bring advertising to AI chatbots — and it's building the pipes to make it happen.
Amazon Publisher Services, the division that helps websites run programmatic ad auctions, is exploring technology that would let other apps and sites monetize their AI chatbot interfaces with ads. The plans were described by two people who've spoken with the company about the initiative.
It's a logical play. As more user interactions shift from traditional web pages to conversational AI interfaces, the ad industry faces an existential question: where do the ads go? Amazon apparently thinks it has an answer.
The move would extend Amazon's already massive ad tech footprint into entirely new territory. If chatbot-based browsing continues to grow, whoever controls the ad plumbing for that format could own a significant chunk of digital advertising's future.
