Qualcomm Crams 2B-Parameter AI Into a Smartwatch Chip
New 3nm Snapdragon Wear Elite brings on-device AI, 5G, and satellite messaging to your wrist.
Qualcomm just dropped the Snapdragon Wear Elite, a 3nm system-on-chip built specifically for smartwatches. The headline feature: a Hexagon NPU capable of running AI models with up to 2 billion parameters directly on your wrist. No cloud required.
That's a massive leap for wearables. On-device AI at that scale means smarter health tracking, more capable voice assistants, and real-time processing without draining battery life by pinging servers constantly.
But AI isn't the only trick here. The chip also brings 5G connectivity and satellite messaging to wearables — two features previously reserved for phones. Satellite messaging alone could be a game-changer for outdoor enthusiasts and emergency situations.
Qualcomm is clearly betting that the next wearable generation needs phone-grade intelligence in a watch-sized package. The 3nm process should help keep power consumption in check while delivering all that firepower.
