Intuitive Snaps Up Its European Surgical Robot Distributors
Intuitive acquires distributors across Italy, Spain, and Portugal, consolidating its da Vinci surgical robot empire in Europe.
Intuitive is cutting out the middleman. The surgical robotics giant has acquired its distributors across three major European markets — Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
The move gives Intuitive direct control over sales and support in a region where it already has serious footprint. As of Dec. 31, 2025, more than 470 da Vinci surgical robots were installed across those three countries.
It's a classic vertical integration play. Rather than relying on third-party distributors to push its flagship robotic surgery platform, Intuitive now owns the entire pipeline from manufacturing to customer relationship.
For hospitals in southern Europe already running da Vinci systems, the transition means dealing directly with the company that built their robots. Whether that translates to better service or just tighter margins for Intuitive remains to be seen.
