Google Absorbs Alphabet's Robotics Unit Intrinsic
Alphabet's industrial robotics AI subsidiary Intrinsic is moving under Google to work closely with DeepMind.
Google just pulled Alphabet's robotics software arm Intrinsic into its own house. The unit, which develops AI models and software for industrial robots, will now operate under Google — though it's keeping its identity as a distinct entity.
The big play here: Intrinsic will work directly with Google DeepMind. That's a clear signal Google is getting serious about physical AI — the kind that moves things in the real world, not just generates text and images.
Intrinsic has been building the software layer that makes industrial robots smarter and more capable. Pairing that with DeepMind's research muscle could accelerate the path from lab-grade robotics demos to actual factory-floor deployment.
Google's bet is straightforward. AI that lives only in the cloud isn't enough. The next frontier is AI that can see, grasp, and manipulate the physical world at scale.
