These private power installations will directly increase carbon emissions and other pollution, bypassing the cleaner energy commitments many of these companies have publicly touted.
The strategy represents a calculated gamble. Building captive power generation solves the immediate bottleneck of securing reliable electricity for power-hungry AI workloads. But it also sidesteps utility oversight and clean energy regulations that apply to the broader grid.
