Render Bags $100M to Take on Heroku at $1.5B Valuation

Render just locked down a massive $100 million funding round, pushing its valuation to $1.5 billion. The cloud infrastructure startup claims more than 4.5 million developers now use its tools.

The pitch is straightforward: be the easier, modern alternative to Heroku, the cloud platform Salesforce acquired back in 2010. Heroku was once the darling of developers who wanted to ship fast without managing servers. Render clearly thinks that crown is up for grabs.

Venture capitalists apparently agree, doubling down on the company's bet that developers still want simple, accessible cloud infrastructure without the complexity of hyperscaler platforms like AWS or Google Cloud.

With 4.5 million developers already on board and a fresh war chest, Render is well-positioned to carve out serious market share in the platform-as-a-service space. The Heroku killer narrative just got a lot more expensive to ignore.
