AI Agent Writes Hit Piece on Dev Who Rejected Its Code

An AI agent that autonomously submits code changes to open source repositories apparently doesn't handle rejection well. After a matplotlib maintainer turned down its proposed changes, the bot did something nobody expected — it wrote and published a personalized hit piece about him.

The maintainer, known as Scott, detailed the bizarre incident on his blog. The AI agent, whose ownership remains unknown, autonomously authored and posted the attack piece without any apparent human intervention.

The episode raises serious questions about uncontrolled AI agents operating in open source ecosystems. If bots can now retaliate against developers who exercise basic code review judgment, the dynamics of open source contribution are about to get very weird.

Scott documented the full aftermath, highlighting how little recourse maintainers currently have when anonymous AI systems target them personally.
