Meta Hits NSO Group With Contempt Order Over WhatsApp Spying
Meta is hauling NSO Group back to federal court for allegedly violating a permanent injunction protecting WhatsApp users.
Meta isn't done fighting NSO Group. The company announced it's filing a federal court contempt order against the Israeli spyware maker, accusing it of violating a permanent injunction that explicitly banned NSO from ever targeting WhatsApp or its users again.
The injunction was supposed to be the final word. NSO got caught, got punished, got told to stay away. Apparently that wasn't enough.
Meta's move signals it believes NSO continued its operations against WhatsApp despite the court order — a bold move for a company already deep in legal trouble. Filing for contempt ratchets up the pressure significantly, potentially exposing NSO to additional penalties.
The spyware firm has faced mounting global backlash over its Pegasus surveillance tool, which has been linked to targeting journalists, activists, and government officials worldwide. Meta clearly wants to make an example here.
