Apple's Foldable iPhone Will Run iPad-Like Software on Its Big Screen
Apple's first foldable iPhone will pack an iPad mini-sized inner display running a modified version of iOS with iPad layouts.
Apple's long-rumored foldable iPhone is shaping up to be a pocket-sized iPad. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the device will sport an inner display roughly the size of an iPad mini — and iOS is getting updated to match.
The software will support iPad-style layouts, including side-by-side app views, when the phone is unfolded. Think split-screen multitasking on a device that still fits in your pocket.
When folded shut, users get an outer screen comparable to a small iPhone. So you're essentially carrying two devices in one: a compact phone for quick tasks and a mini tablet for everything else.
Apple is threading a tricky needle here — making a foldable that justifies its existence by actually adapting the software experience to the form factor, not just slapping a bigger screen on a hinge.
