Apple's Studio Display XDR Is Gorgeous — and Brutally Priced

Apple's new Studio Display XDR nails picture quality and finally fixes the camera, but $3,300 and Mac-only limits its audience.

Apple's Studio Display XDR Is Gorgeous — and Brutally Priced

Apple's follow-up to the 5K Studio Display has arrived, and it's a mixed bag of brilliance and sticker shock. The Studio Display XDR lands at $3,300 and brings reference-grade picture modes, a dramatically improved camera, and 120Hz support — but only on newer Macs.

Four years after the original Studio Display launched to lukewarm reactions from the pro crowd, Apple is clearly swinging harder at the high end this time. The reference picture modes position it as a serious tool for creative professionals. The camera upgrade addresses one of the most mocked shortcomings of the original.

The catch? That $3,300 price tag is steep. And it's Mac-only, meaning Windows and Linux users need not apply. For Apple loyalists doing color-critical work, it could be a no-brainer. For everyone else, it's a very expensive wall of pixels.
