Most US Teens Now Use AI Chatbots for School and Search
Pew Research finds 57% of American teens turn to AI chatbots for information, with over half using them for homework.
AI chatbots have gone mainstream with American teenagers. A new Pew Research Center survey reveals that 57% of US teens use AI chatbots to search for information, making it the most common use case among young users.
Schoolwork is a close second. A full 54% of teens say they've used chatbots to help with homework and assignments. Nearly half — 47% — use them purely for fun and entertainment.
Then there's the more surprising stat: 12% of teens report turning to AI chatbots for emotional support. That's roughly one in eight kids seeking comfort from a language model instead of — or alongside — a human.
The numbers paint a clear picture. AI isn't some niche tool for teens. It's baked into how they learn, search, play, and apparently, cope. The classroom implications alone are massive.
