Disney Pays $2.75M to Settle California Privacy Lawsuit

Disney is cutting a $2.75 million check to make a privacy headache disappear.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed suit in 2024, claiming Disney violated the California Consumer Privacy Act by failing to honor opt-out requests from consumers who wanted their data left alone.

The settlement resolves those allegations. Bonta couldn't resist a themed jab: "Consumers shouldn't have to go to infinity and beyond to assert their privacy rights."

The case highlights ongoing enforcement of CCPA, which gives California residents the right to tell companies to stop selling or sharing their personal information. When companies ignore those requests, the state's AG office comes knocking.

For Disney, $2.75 million is pocket change. But the message to other companies is clear: privacy opt-outs aren't optional.
