Google Drops 'Ask YouTube' — AI Search for Video
YouTube Premium subscribers in the US can now query an AI-powered conversational search tool on the platform.
Google just rolled out a new experimental feature called Ask YouTube. It's a conversational AI search tool that generates full pages combining relevant videos with text summaries. Think AI Mode, but specifically for YouTube's massive video library.
The catch? It's limited. You need a YouTube Premium subscription, you have to be in the US, and you must be 18 or older. Google is calling it an "experiment," which is corporate speak for "we might kill this later."
The feature represents Google's latest push to weave generative AI deeper into its flagship products. Instead of scrolling through endless thumbnails, users can ask questions and get curated, AI-assembled answer pages.
No word yet on international availability or whether it'll eventually reach free-tier users. For now, it's a Premium perk — and a signal of where YouTube search is headed.
