Google's Gemini AI assistant just broke free from mobile. The company launched a native Mac app, marking Gemini's first jump beyond Android and iOS to the desktop.
The app fires up with a quick Option + Space keyboard shortcut — clearly gunning for Spotlight-style muscle memory. It's designed as a proper native desktop experience, not just a web wrapper.
Key features include screen sharing, which lets Gemini see what you're working on for better contextual responses. There's also image generation powered by something called Nano Banana, Google's latest creative tool baked into the assistant.
The move puts Google in direct competition with other AI assistants eyeing desktop real estate. With macOS as the beachhead, Gemini now has a presence across mobile and desktop platforms. No word yet on a Windows version.
