Samsung will shut down its native Messages app for US users in July 2026, pushing everyone to Google Messages.

Samsung Killing Its Messages App in the US Next July

Samsung is pulling the plug on its own Messages app in the United States. The company posted an official "End of Service Announcement" confirming the shutdown is set for July 2026.

The move effectively hands the default messaging experience on Samsung phones entirely over to Google Messages. Samsung is already providing step-by-step instructions for users running older Android versions to make the switch.

This isn't exactly shocking. Google Messages has been steadily becoming the de facto texting app on Android, largely thanks to its RCS support. Samsung preloading Google Messages on newer devices made its own app increasingly redundant.

For the millions of Samsung phone owners in the US still using the stock Samsung Messages app, the clock is now ticking. Time to migrate — or let Samsung do it for you when the deadline hits.
