Google Now Lets US Users Change Their Email Username

Google finally lets US account holders swap out that embarrassing email address they picked in middle school.

Google Now Lets US Users Change Their Email Username

Good news for anyone still rocking xXshadowlord99Xx@gmail.com — Google has rolled out the ability to change your account username to all users in the US.

The feature comes with one major constraint: you only get one username change per 12 months. So choose wisely this time around.

There's a safety net, though. Your old email address sticks around as an alternate address, meaning messages sent to your previous handle will still reach you. No cold-turkey cutoff from your digital past.

The update addresses a long-standing frustration for Gmail users who created accounts years ago and have been stuck with regrettable choices ever since. Previously, changing your username wasn't an option — you either lived with it or started fresh with a new account entirely.

One shot per year. Make it count.
