Micron Locks Down $1.8B Taiwan Fab, Plans a Second One
Micron closes its acquisition of Powerchip's DRAM fab in Taiwan and announces plans for a second facility of similar scale.
Micron just sealed the deal on its $1.8 billion acquisition of Powerchip's DRAM fabrication facility in Taiwan. The U.S. memory chipmaker isn't stopping there.
The company announced plans to build a second manufacturing facility in Taiwan at a similar scale. Construction on that second fab is expected to kick off by the end of fiscal year 2026.
The move doubles down on Micron's manufacturing footprint in one of the world's most critical semiconductor hubs. Taiwan remains the epicenter of advanced chip production, and Micron is clearly betting big on expanding its DRAM capacity there.
Two major fabs in Taiwan gives Micron serious production muscle as demand for memory chips continues to surge across AI, data centers, and consumer electronics. That's roughly $3.6 billion committed to Taiwanese manufacturing in short order.
