China's Hua Hong Preps 7nm Chips With Huawei's Help
Hua Hong is building 7nm chip manufacturing capability at its Shanghai facility, becoming China's second advanced chipmaker after SMIC.
Hua Hong Group is gearing up to produce chips at the 7nm node — and Huawei is helping make it happen. The Shanghai-based chipmaker has been developing advanced manufacturing processes at its local fab, according to Reuters sources.
If successful, Hua Hong would become only the second Chinese company capable of producing chips at the 7nm level, joining SMIC in an exclusive club. The technology is advanced enough to manufacture artificial intelligence chips.
This is a significant milestone for China's semiconductor ambitions. The country has been pouring resources into building domestic chip manufacturing capabilities, particularly as global supply chain tensions continue to reshape the industry.
Huawei's involvement underscores the telecom giant's deepening role in China's chip ecosystem — not just as a customer, but as a collaborator pushing manufacturing boundaries forward.
