Revolut Goes for a US Bank Charter, Taps Ex-Visa Exec to Lead
British fintech giant Revolut applies for a US bank charter and names former Visa executive as its new American CEO.
Revolut is making its biggest play yet for the American market. The British fintech heavyweight has officially applied for a US bank charter — a move that could fundamentally reshape its stateside operations.
To lead the charge, the company appointed Cetin Duransoy as its new US CEO. Duransoy comes straight from Visa, bringing heavyweight payments industry experience to the role.
The timing makes sense. Revolut has grown into a genuine global force with roughly 70 million clients spread across 40 markets. But cracking the US — where banking regulations are notoriously complex and competition is fierce — requires a different playbook.
A bank charter would let Revolut offer a much broader range of financial services to American customers, moving beyond its current fintech limitations. It's a bold bet on American expansion from a company that clearly isn't slowing down.
