Big Tech Signs White House Pact to Power AI Data Centers
Seven major tech companies agree to build their own electricity supply for power-hungry AI data centers.
The biggest names in tech are about to make a massive energy commitment. Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, xAI, Oracle, and OpenAI will all sign onto a White House initiative requiring them to build their own electricity supply for AI data centers.
That's seven companies — essentially the entire AI infrastructure elite — agreeing to stop leaning solely on existing power grids and start generating their own juice.
The move underscores just how ravenous AI workloads have become. Training and running large-scale models demands staggering amounts of electricity, and the current grid simply can't keep up with the pace of expansion.
By locking in their own power generation, these companies gain more control over uptime, costs, and — critically — the ability to scale without waiting on utilities to catch up. It's a clear signal: AI's energy problem is now a boardroom priority.
