Waymo Expands Robotaxi Service to Four New US Cities
Alphabet's self-driving unit now operates in 10 US cities after opening rides in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando.
Waymo just hit double digits. The Alphabet-owned autonomous vehicle company launched its robotaxi service in four new cities on Tuesday — Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando. That brings its total US footprint to 10 cities.
The rollout is starting with "select riders" rather than full public access, a familiar playbook for the self-driving company as it scales into new markets. Waymo typically expands access gradually before opening the floodgates.
The four-city expansion is a significant geographic push, particularly in Texas where Waymo is now live in three cities simultaneously. Florida gets its first Waymo presence with Orlando.
For Waymo, it's a clear signal that the company is accelerating its growth strategy. Going from six to ten cities in one shot is aggressive — and puts more distance between Waymo and its shrinking pool of competitors in the robotaxi race.
