Roku Finally Turns a Profit After Three Brutal Years of Losses

Roku is back in the black. The streaming platform reported an $88.4 million profit in 2025 — its first profitable year since 2021. That's a stunning turnaround from a stretch that saw the company bleed money at an alarming rate.

The numbers tell the story. Roku lost $498 million in 2022, then somehow managed to make things worse with a $709.6 million loss in 2023. The bleeding slowed to $129.4 million in 2024, and now the company has clawed its way back to profitability.

Two things drove the recovery: new digital advertising deals and good old-fashioned cost cutting. The ad investments in particular helped propel the platform forward, giving Roku a revenue engine beyond just selling hardware and licensing content.

Three consecutive years of losses totaling over $1.3 billion made this feel like a long time coming.
