Apple Locks 18+ Apps Behind Age Checks in Three Countries
Apple now requires age assurance before users can download adult-rated apps in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore.
Apple is putting up gates around adult content. Users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore will soon be blocked from downloading apps rated 18+ unless they pass age assurance checks first.
The company is simultaneously rolling out new age assurance tools for developers. These tools will be available in all three countries plus parts of the United States, giving devs the infrastructure to verify user ages before granting access to restricted content.
The move signals Apple tightening its App Store policies around minors' access to adult-rated material — a growing regulatory pressure point worldwide. Rather than waiting for governments to force its hand entirely, Apple is baking verification directly into its developer toolkit.
No word yet on when additional countries might get the same treatment, but the multi-region rollout suggests this is just the starting lineup.
